What SunWindow collects
SunWindow has no user accounts, no advertising frameworks, and no server of our own. We do not sell or share personal information — from anyone, including children. The website and mobile apps use Google Analytics, described below.
Analytics
The web version at sunwindow.live uses Google Analytics, and the iOS and Android apps use Google Analytics for Firebase, to understand aggregate usage — sessions, approximate region, device type. These services set identifiers and collect usage data under Google's privacy policy; we see only aggregated, anonymized reports and never receive anything that identifies you personally. There are no other analytics or crash-reporting SDKs in the apps.
Location
SunWindow asks for your location so it can compute sunrise, sunset, golden hour, blue hour and twilight times for where you are. The solar math runs entirely on your device. You can decline location access and instead search for a place or drag the map — the app works the same way. Your chosen location is saved locally on your device only, so the app opens where you left it.
Third-party services the app talks to
To draw the map and name places, SunWindow requests data from three services. Like any web request, these expose your IP address to the service; they receive no other identity, and we add no identifiers of our own:
- Mapbox — serves the map tiles you see. When you view or drag the map, tile requests reveal the map area being viewed. See Mapbox's privacy policy.
- OpenStreetMap Nominatim — turns coordinates into place names and your text searches into coordinates. See the OSMF privacy policy.
- Google Fonts (web version only) — serves the Inter typeface. See Google's privacy policy.
Reminders & notifications
Light-phase reminders are scheduled locally on your device (or in your browser tab on the web). No reminder data leaves your device.
What stays on your device
Your saved location and scheduled reminders live locally on your phone or in your browser's storage, and sync nowhere. Deleting the app (or clearing site data) deletes them.
Apple & Google
If you install through the App Store or Google Play and have opted in to sharing analytics with Apple or Google, they may provide us aggregated, anonymized statistics (crash reports, install counts) through their developer consoles. That data is controlled by Apple and Google under their own policies; it contains nothing that identifies you to us.
Changes to this policy
If SunWindow ever changes in a way that affects your privacy, we will update this page and note the change in the release notes before the change ships.
